A river cruise is one of the most elegant and worry-free ways to travel. Onboard Croisi Amalia Rodrigues, all of your meals and most drinks are included. With only 132 guests on the ship, not only is your VACAYA Luxe river cruise a great value, but it offers a truly intimate cruising experience, as well. Onboard, you’ll enjoy a continuous view of the incredible landscapes along the famous waterways, and you’ll also see a different side of Europe – one that can only be experienced from the river.

The ship’s name honors Amalia Rebordao Rodrigues – Portuguese fado singer and actress also known as “Rainha do Fado” (“Queen of Fado”). Until her death, Amalia sold over 30 million albums worldwide. She remains Portugal’s best-selling artist ever. So let’s raise a glass to her and our new-found friends as we watch the endless vistas roll by. No formal nights are held onboard and the dress code is smart casual.

The Sun Deck offers stellar views of the beautiful scenery as it glides by. It’s the perfect place to enjoy the warm summer sun or a night full of stars as you take in the magical charms of Europe’s famed Douro River.

Amalia Rodrigues’ heated pool sets a new standard for riverships and is a perfect spot to meet up with friends and share a cocktail after a great day of sightseeing.

Dining aboard Amalia Rodrigues is an endless array of palate-pleasing farm-to-table locally inspired sensations. The restaurant is where all meals are served and it seats all guests at tables which vary in size – each with a panoramic view. The atmosphere is one of casual elegance.

A perfect place to meet up with friends before excursions or to ask any information you may need of the staff. The Gift Shop is also located here and you’ll find a wide assortment of souvenirs and post cards.

At the heart of the Amalia Rodrigues is the Bar and Lounge. The lounge is a chic social space with panoramic views. Cocktails, games, parties, and VACAYA’s fantastic entertainment all happen here.

We’ll be in Lisbon for the Gay Pride Village, also known as Arraial Pride that takes place in the heart of the city. It is a combination of rallies, performances, and parties. The Vacayans will show you the best that the city has to offer, including gay bar crawls, special exhibitions, and of course the Lisbon Gay Pride Village located in Terreiro do Paco – steps from our exclusive host hotel. Here you’ll find a selection of gay bars, food stalls, and an impressive line up of guest DJs, dance acts, bands, and special international guest appearances.

Discover ageless Lisbon, a city famous for its hospitality and the way it welcomes visitors. Take in the historic center, the Baixa Pombalina, with its traditional shops and museums, and the lively streets of Chiado, with their eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional stores. All a short stroll from our conveniently located exclusive VACAYA Hotel, Brown’s Central.

Join us for Lisbon Gay Pride, officially known as Arraial Lisboa Pride. The celebration centers around the themes of freedom, diversity, and equality. Experience the unique Lisbon Pride Village and its vendor booths, bars, stages, DJs, and dance floors.

Lisbon Pride concludes today with light-hearted festivities. Spend the day exploring Bairro Alto, the hub of the local gay community and home to the city’s best gay bars. Thousands will descend on this electric neighborhood adorned in rainbow flags, feather boas, and beads to celebrate LGBT pride.

Join us for this optional tour of Sintra, a delightful Portuguese town of extravagant palaces, opulent mansions, and the ruins of an ancient castle. Sintra, also known as “Monte da Lua” or Moon Hill, welcomes us with a variety of fascinating historic buildings and enthralling attractions. We’ll tour Sintra Village, a favorite spot of Portuguese Royal families of centuries past. We’ll also visit the National Palace, the best-preserved medieval royal residence in Portugal, inhabited more or less continuously from the early 15th century to the late 19th century.

The optional tour of Sintra is $149 per person and includes transfers, admission to the National Palace, and lunch. As a special BONUS OFFER, if you pay for your trip in full before December 24, 2019, this tour is yours for FREE!

Join us for a light breakfast before checking out of the beautiful Brown’s Central Hotel. We’ll take a scenic drive to Porto, stopping for lunch along the way in Coimbra, birthplace of six Portuguese kings and home to one of Europe’s oldest universities. Upon our arrival in Porto, we’ll proceed to the dock in Vila Nova de Gaia to board the Amalia Rodrigues. Once we’ve settled in, you can relax before enjoying a cocktail and meeting our crew. After dinner, join us for a night tour of Porto that includes a breathtaking view of the city lights reflecting upon the Douro.

After breakfast onboard, join us for a city tour of Porto, a charming riverside community whose historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Admire its graceful bridges, baroque cathedrals, and romantic 16th-century buildings nestled together on narrow cobblestone streets. After our tours, we’ll return to our ship and spend the afternoon sailing along the Douro.

This morning, take a tour of the extraordinary Mateus Palace, a stunning baroque palace that was home to the last Count of Vila Real. Wonder at its pinnacled façade, grand stairway, richly appointed interiors, and priceless objects on display. Discover the palace’s enchanting formal gardens featuring cedar-lined walkways, exquisite sculpted hedges, and serene bodies of water. We’ll return to the ship for an afternoon of cruising, where you can relax in the pool up on the Sun Deck or unwind with friends and a drink in the lounge as we sail towards Spain.

Today you’ll have a choice of excursions. Discover the ancient city of Salamanca, Spain – a UNESCO World Heritage Site that will transport you back to the Middle Ages. Nicknamed La Dorada (The Golden One) for its sandstone buildings that appear to glow, Salamanca is a magical destination that boasts top-rate history, culture, food, and attractions. Tour the 13th-century Salamanca University and the “New” Cathedral, built from 1513 through 1733. Stroll through Plaza Mayor, featuring baroque architectural details, pedestrian-only streets, and sweeping arches.

For the more adventurous, choose a bike ride through the Iberian countryside to Salamanca’s old town, then spend some time exploring the shops and cafés of the Plaza Mayor on your own. The bike excursion is an additional $75 per person.

This morning, we sail west along the Douro past some of the area’s picturesque terraced quintas (vineyards). See dramatic, sheer rock formations and graceful bridges and trestles along the way. We arrive in Ferradosa in the afternoon, a sleepy little town nestled among the terraced slopes of the Douro Valley in the heart of Port wine country. We’ll visit San Salvador do Mundo and Sao Joao da Pesqueira, two towns set among the vineyards in the Rio Torto Valley where you will have the opportunity to visit a quinta (wine cellar) before returning to the Amalia Rodrigues for our final afternoon of sailing.
